Understanding the skills map

What "got it", "working on it" and "ready" mean on your child's Skills page, and why there's no star count.

Four words, not a percentage

The Skills page sorts everything your child is learning into a few plain states instead of a score:

  • Got it — shown as a check mark, never a star. Your child has shown this skill enough

times, spaced out over enough days, that it's unlikely to be a lucky streak.

  • Working on it — in progress right now. This is exactly where most of their time should

be going.

  • Ready — the skill after what they're working on now. It's visible so you can see what's

coming, not because it's assigned yet.

  • Later — everything further out. Nothing to do here yet; it's just the shape of the whole

map.

Why not a number

A percentage or a star count invites comparing one child to another, or to "100%" — and math skills don't actually work that way. A child can answer nine facts right in a row and still not have the skill solidly, if those nine were the easy ones. The got-it bar only fills in once a skill has held up across a stretch of days, not just one good session.

What to actually look at

If you only check one thing, check what's "working on it" right now — that's the thing practice time this week should be spent on. Everything "later" on the map will still be there next month; it's not a deadline.
